Progressive rock took flight in 1965 when Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason united in London. Their site emphasizes their 'sonic experimentation,' seen in early psychedelic hits under Barrett’s lead. 'The Dark Side of the Moon' (1973), with over 250 million records sold, became a chart juggernaut, lingering 900 weeks on Billboard. Known for elaborate live shows, 'The Wall' (1979) tackled isolation with operatic flair. Waters left in 1985, but a 2005 Live 8 reunion thrilled fans. Their hypnotic sound continues to echo through modern music.
